OCD care in Delhi and online

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) involves unwanted thoughts, images or urges that keep coming back (obsessions), and things you feel you have to do to ease the distress they cause (compulsions).

Dr. Aditya VohraMBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Psychiatrist in New Delhi

OCD is not about being tidy. It can take up hours of the day and cause real suffering, and it can be treated.

Common signs

  • Unwanted, distressing thoughts that keep returning
  • Repeated checking of locks, switches or messages
  • Washing or cleaning far more than needed
  • Counting, arranging or repeating actions until it feels right
  • Asking for reassurance again and again
  • Spending an hour or more a day on these thoughts or actions

When to see a psychiatrist

See a psychiatrist if obsessions or compulsions take up a lot of time, cause distress, or get in the way of your daily life.

In danger right now? Call 112, or Tele-MANAS on 14416. Outside India, call your local emergency number.

How he can help

Treatment usually combines a form of cognitive behavioural therapy called exposure and response prevention with medicine when it is needed. He explains both, and the plan is paced to what you can manage.

  1. 1

    Ask for a time

Fill in the short form below, or call or write. Say whether you would like to meet online or in person, and how soon.

  2. 2

    Confirm the slot

The clinic team confirms a time and tells you the fee before anything is fixed.

  3. 3

    First consultation

An unhurried conversation about what is happening, how long it has been going on and what you want to change. Bring any earlier prescriptions or reports.

  4. 4

    A plan you understand

Together we agree on next steps. That can combine medicine, therapy with a psychologist and regular follow-up, explained in plain words.

In person or online

Timings: Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 9 pm IST, by appointment. Closed on Sundays.

Questions

Can OCD be treated without medicine?

Some people do well with therapy alone, particularly exposure and response prevention. Others benefit from medicine as well. The choice depends on how severe the OCD is and on what you prefer.
